To enrich the
life of AIIB staff and meet their request to learn Taiji, which was raised in
the Questionnaire of Customer Satisfaction Survey conducted in March, the AIIB Project
Office offered the first Taiji (Wudang Style) training session named
Demonstration of Taiji Kongfu, on 5 July. Mr. Li Zhigang from the International
Club also took part in the event.
Created by Guru
Zhang Sanfeng in the Mt. Wudang on the basis of traditional Chinese philosophy
of Yin and Yang, Taiji (Wudang Style) is a martial art form emphasizing internal
and external balance. With elegant and well coordinated moves, a practitioner
is required to focus on the correct posture and pattern of breathing to achieve
balance between the mental world and the physical world. For an office worker
under a lot of pressure, it is particularly important to relax from time to
time through physical exercises, so as to stay healthy regardless of age,
gender and physical conditions.
Thanks to the
liaison work done by Mr. Li Zhigang, Director of the General Office of the
International Club, Mr. Jiang Zong, the 15th generation Taiji (Wudang
Style) guru, and his followers were invited to deliver a lecture in the
training session. The Kungfu master showcased various shadow boxing styles and
the performance won rounds of applause from the amazed audience. The 30 odd
participants from a number of countries, including Britain, the US, Korea and Thailand,
were engrossed and thrilled by the performance.
The Taiji master then began to teach the
audience some basic moves after short warm-up games. With practice, the participants
started making improvements steadily under the guidance of the presenter. When
the training session was over, the participants flocked to take photos with the
Taiji master, so as to remember the one of a kind experience.
Though the training
session lasted just a little more than one hour from beginning to end, the AIIB
Project Office had devoted tremendous energy and time to the planning work one
month in advance, and conducted discussions to finalize the agenda in detail, including
the time schedule, lecture arrangements, gift preparation, liaison,
consultation, venue setup, email distribution and participant registration. Mr.
Li Zhigang attended the event in person despite his tight schedule and joined
the audience in learning the Taiji Kungfu.
The success of
the first training session is a good beginning and more classes will be held in
July, which are well received and
appreciated not only by the audience but also by the AIIB Administrative
Department. Based on the initial success, more efforts will be made to deliver
better experiences to the audience in the future.
