The normalization of China-US diplomatic relations that brought along global changes all began with the momentum generated by the tiny-teeny ping-pong balls, i.e. the so-called Ping-Pong Diplomacy, in 1971. Since then, the popular game in the world has played a very big role in China’s diplomatic endeavors with other countries. With strong support from the DSB and HSC leadership and all related HSC departments, the Ping-Pong Room of the Liangmaqiao Diplomatic Office Building opened for the fans, adding to the DRC facilities and PR approaches. An opening ceremony was held jointly by the PR & Sales and Property Management Departments at 6 p.m., 5 December 2017, participated by 15 diplomats with families from the United States, Japan and Korea, among others, as well as Ms. Jiang Qi, DSB executive deputy director general, and Miss Lin Li, HSC deputy general manager.
Ms. Jiang welcomed the presence of the envoys in fluent English and Japanese, saying that the Table Tennis Friendly Tournament organized at the Beidaihe Sea Resort last August received a lot of acclaims from the diplomatic community and numerous embassy employees from Japan and Korea expressed their aspiration to have a Ping-Pong Room at the Liangmaqiao DRC. The Liangmaqiao DRC Property Management made tremendous endeavors to find a nice place for it and eventually the underground level space was found. Professional and quality equipment and facilities had been installed with an exclusive change/shower room as well as air purifiers to lower the impurities dramatically for the users’ health and contentment.
After the opening words, Ms. Jiang went on
to have a few games with the invitees and her expertly moves and skills won a
lot of applauses from the spectators. The guests thanked the HSC for the new
facility. Mr. Ueda from the Economic Section of the Japanese Embassy said he
was very happy to have a chance to have a couple of games with the sports
lovers from other countries. The military attaché from the Embassy of the
Republic of Korea thanked Ms. Jiang and DRC for meeting the need of the
diplomats that made their dream come true. He was particularly satisfied to see
the air purifiers in the Ping-Pong Room, saying he was touched by the care and
consideration. The PR & Sales Department will continue to make effort to
offer diversified PR satisfactions to the diplomatic community in Beijing for
them to benefit more from the DRC amities and facilities.
