AIIB Project Office Organizes Mooncake Making Event for Customers

At the advent of the Mid-autumn Festival (Dragon Boat Day), the AIIB Project Office organized a parents-children mooncake making party on 22 September, with seasonal blessings and greetings to the expatriate AIIB employees and their kids, to mark the traditional Chinese holiday. The event was comprised of tutorials in Guangdong-styled mooncake and “snowy mooncake” making, together with background information of how the festival came to be part of Chinese tradition, which was highly welcomed and acclaimed by the AIIB employees to make it a complete success.

Although few people are strangers to mooncake tasting, perhaps not many have had hands-on experience of making it. Pastry chefs from the Beijing Shangri La Hotel were invited to give the tutorials, consisting of pastry making, stuffing wrapping, mold pressing and icing topping. The learners did pretty well under the guidance of the chefs and the children were particularly thrilled, as they couldn’t stop until the end of the hands-on game and took selfies with their achievements together with their parents.

The 30-minutes-or-so baking time for the Guangdong styled was used to present a lecture on how the festival originated. For the AIIB employees, the holiday was a novel experience of the local traditions. The lecturer delivered a 3-part description on the origin, history and tradition of the festival, quoting anecdotes portrayed in the A Dream of the Red Chamber, which was well received and highly appreciated. In the interactive part, the spectators who gave the right answers to questions were awarded with souvenirs. In the following part, the “snowy mooncake” making tutorial drew even a larger crowd, including some senior executives. The Project Office employees made vigorous efforts in coaching, playing with the children and keeping the venue in order 

As the baking came to an end, the aroma of the freshly made mooncakes brought the atmosphere to a height, as the spectators swarmed to take a taste or photos of the vibrant scene with cameras. The originally planned 60-minute event didn’t come to a stop until 90 minutes later, not without a lot of reluctance. Though our employees were sweating profusely for the endeavors, they came out of the party with tremendous gratification and broad smiles.

The AIIB Project Office executives attached great importance and the employees devoted tremendous efforts to the event, as merely the planning and preparations took a full month’s time. Customer reach-out activities being one of the most important features of the DRC, more and innovative endeavors will be made to offer higher quality experiences to the AIIB customers to bring the brand name of DRC deeper into their hearts.
