World Culture Tutorial VI
2017-08-28

The PR & Sales Department’s World Culture Tour took its employees to a tiny, beautiful and plentiful country on the Malay Islands – Brunei – as Bruneian embassy diplomats in Beijing were approached to give a lecture on 13 July, as part of the World Culture Tutorial 2017.

H.E. Magdalene Teo, Bruneian ambassadress to China, together with her employees, welcomed the PR & Sales staff to visit her mission in Beijing. She said that she had taken part in the DSB-HSC events on numerous occasions and was deeply impressed by the organization and contents. She thanked the DRC for having delivered considerate, professional and efficient services to her embassy in the past years. The PR & Sales participants replied that they were honored to have been invited to the embassy to take part in the cultural exchanges and educational event and hoped the tutorial would enable them to learn more about the history and culture of Brunei. The two sides also exchanged views on the basic HSC structure and DRC service concept.

An embassy staff then showcased the visitors this small but beautiful country and its relations with China through a PPT presentation and documentary film : occupying a territorial space of 5765 sq. km. with a population of 417,200 and 80% forest coverage, Brunei’s pillar industry is oil and natural gas, and the country is boasting an astounding per capita GDP of US$ 31,000. Trade routes between Brunei and China had been established since China’s Han Dynasty (206 BC–220 AD) and it was one of the countries Zheng He (Cheng Ho) visited with his majestic fleet during the Ming Dynasty (1368–1644). Since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries in September 1991, close and friendly cooperation had been formulated, as both had conducted in-depth collaboration in various aspects, such as trade, energy, infrastructure construction, agriculture, fishery, education, cultural exchanges, defense and tourism.

Located in the same area of Liangmaqiao, the PR & Sales Department’s visit to its neighbor provided it a chance to learn more about this tiny and beautiful country and build up affinity between the two sides, laying down a good foundation for a stronger friendly cooperation in the future.
