A Zongzi Making Event – Qijiayuan DRC Offers Dragon Boat Festival Experience

  When proceeding with the DRC renovation project, the Property Management Department of the Qijiayuan DRC continues its endeavor to improve the tenants’ living environment. At the advent of the Dragon Boat Festival, the Property Management Department, together with the Beijing Language and Culture Center for Diplomatic Missions (LCC), organized a Zongzi making event for the DRC dwellers. 

  The tenants were thrilled and curious to see the ingredients prepared for them on the table in the DRC Coffee House as they showed up on the afternoon of 3 June, 2016. When the event was kicked off, the teacher started by making a presentation on the Dragon Boat Festival history and customs to an interested audience. Then the participants were treated to the Zongzi, namely a pyramid-shaped dumpling made of glutinous rice wrapped in bamboo or reed leaves, which proved to be a particularly unique experience for the first-time tasters and made them even more eager to start learning the skill. 

  After tasting the Zongzi, the teacher began demonstrating how Zongzi was made to the audience, as she wrapped the rice filling with reed leaves. Very attentively, the tenants followed every move of the teacher, and they just could not wait to start trying their own hands. The one-hour-long hands-on experience offered the participants some knowledge of the traditional Chinese culture as well as a great deal of fun. 

  The event attracted diplomats and their families from countries including Sri Lanka, Iran and Pakistan, among others, who were highly appreciative and thankful for the novel experience and arrangements made by the DRC Property Management Department. Taking the opportunity, the staff of Department of Property Management also sought comments and suggestions from the tenants on the ongoing renovation project and answered their questions, vowing to deliver help and service at any time at tenants’ request, which showed their care to the tenants and demonstrated their commitment to providing even better service in this respect in the future.
