Translation Tips

Literal translation refers to the method by means of which the literal meaning of the source text is directly translated into the target language. For example, “zhi laohu”in Chinese can be translated as“paper tiger”, which is easy  for native English speakers to understand. Speakers of English language think that this expression  is very vivid and therefore have incorporated this expression into the formal national language of Britain and America. In addition, “diu lian”and “zou gou”in Chinese are translated as “lose face”and “running dog”respectively. The term of “gong fu”, which has enjoyed popularity overseas because of the “China craze,”is  translated as “kung fu”according to its pronunciation, which is also a kind of literal translation.
