Elevator Emergency Training
2016-06-08

On the afternoon of 15 March, this Department organized an elevator safety training session for some 20 middle ranking executives to better serve the AIIB, through learning more, in a more professional and comprehensive manner, about the elevator system in the AIIB building, aiming at coping more efficiently with emergencies. 3 staff from the Elevator Service Department headed by Mr. Liu Hong, the manager, were invited to make presentations on the AIIB elevators’ features, safety and protective mechanisms as well as how to deal with emergencies and things to note in daily operations by working together with the manufacturer and the property management team and by use of PPT slides, video clips and case studies. This training was well received by the audience.

Mr. Liu began with an overview of the AIIB elevators currently in use, which are composed of 10 units of the best-selling Mitsubishi high-end products, numerous imported components, bi-directional speed governors, the dual brake system and the upward over-speed protecting apparatus for safe operation and compliance with the 2014 national elevator safety standards.

    M. Liu went then on to describe how to deal with elevator malfunctions, make safe use of them and cope with emergencies (e.g. power stoppage, malfunction, fire, water leakage, earthquake and others), and handle a stuck elevator with passengers inside as well as the daily routines, with video clips explaining how to rescue stranded passengers. He emphasized on the importance of making an emergency plan, conducting daily patrols, completing the maintenance report, storing surveillance videos and ensuring the normal functioning of the five-way communications system. In the case of an elevator stopping with passengers in, the maintenance unit should be informed immediately and the time should be noted down for future reference, to avoid possible disputes and complaints. At the same time, the customer service, cleaning and security staff should rush to the scene immediately to appease the stranded people. Mr. Liu pointed out specifically that, due to the AIIB’s importance, immediate actions should be taken to get in touch with the producer and property management for a seamless and timely rescue operation, with clearly defined responsibilities.

Mr. Liu concluded his presentation by answering questions from the audience and the lecture closed in a warm round of applause. Feng Cheng, Director of the AIIB Project Office, thanked Mr. Liu for the spectacular presentation and hoped in the future he could give more specialized training to the AIIB employees and staff from other related sections for improving their professional skills and service.

The participants learned a lot from this training session, which will particularly assist this Department in offering more professional and efficient service to the customers, as we will put the lessons into use in our daily work, draw on practical experiences and improve the management system.
