"The Diplomats’ Summer 2015" Organized by the Duty Free shop in Chengdu

2016-01-15

In March 2015, in response to market changes and to promote the development of the branches of the Duty Free Shop and achieve win-win cooperation, Shenfu Peng, General Manager of the Beijing Comprehensive Service Corporation for Diplomatic Missions led a delegation, after visiting the Wuliangye Group, to meet Mu Xinhai, Director General of Department of Foreign and Overseas Chinese Affairs of Sichuan Province. The two sides had in-depth exchanges on topics such as the strengthening support provided by the Beijing Duty Free Shop for Diplomatic Missions to its Sichuan branch for the purpose of achieving win-win cooperation. In the spirit of the meeting, on June 25, 2015, the Beijing Duty Free Shop for Diplomatic Missions and the Sichuan Duty Free Shop for Diplomatic Missions organized the event entitled "Diplomats’ Summer 2015", which was very successful and rewarding.

The Beijing Duty Free Shop for Diplomatic Missions has five branches throughout China, and assisting the branches in exploring market opportunities is one of the major work plans of the Shop in 2015. As a prelude to the strategic work plan, the Beijing Duty Free Shop for Diplomatic Missions attached great importance to this event, assumed the role of the chief planner of the event, and sent special invitations to a number of nationally renowned companies. On the afternoon of June 23,  a team of three people from the Beijing Shop arrived in Chengdu and went to the outskirts of the city where the event was to be hosted. They helped partner companies solve problems, coordinated site preparation work, prepared for liquor tasting sessions, designed the order of proceedings, decided on the gifts to be allocated and prepared PPT presentations. The hot weather outside was a real challenge. From June 23 until the conclusion of the event, everyone, busy from morning to night and often not even having time to have lunch, had to negotiate agreements with foreign suppliers via email at night. It was hard work, but everyone worked together to overcome the difficulties and was rewarded with the success of the event.

On the evening of June 25, consular officials in Chengdu from Consulates of Thailand, Pakistan, Israel, the US, Singapore, Sri Lanka, as well as customers from domestic high-end companies were invited to attend the event. The team of the Beijing Shop presented to the guests the history of development of the Diplomatic Duty Free Shops and the characteristics of duty-free products, and organized interactive wine tasting sessions. Tasting Guizhou Maotai vintage and renowned imported wines, demonstrating live hand-made Great Wall cigars, and testing Harley motorbikes, together with a tea ceremony, a guqin show, and a Sichuan embroidery technology demonstration session, attracted the attention of the visitors who could not help taking pictures and sharing their experiences in this regard. The activities were highly praised by Chinese and foreign guests. Zhang Jiyong, Deputy Director General of Foreign and Overseas Chinese Affairs Department of Sichuan Province, said that this event was one that was for the first time organized jointly by the Beijing Diplomatic Duty Free Shop and his Department, and thanked the Beijing Service Bureau for Diplomatic Missions (BDS) for its support. Zhang hoped to provide, on this land of lavender flowers, a platform for everyone to enhance exchanges, improve understanding and increase friendship. Komate Kamalanavin, Consul General of Thailand in Chengdu and Consular Corps Representative in Chengdu, sent congratulations on and thanks for this successful event, and hoped to continue strengthening communication in the future. The joyous laughter and happy voices accompanied the sunset when the event was concluded successfully.

The success of this event was a successful attempt incorporated in the Beijing Duty Free Shop strategic plan of supporting its branches. The event has expanded the "diplomatic duty–free " brand influence, promoted sales, and was of great importance for the business development of the branches. The event also built a platform for the Beijing Duty Free Shop, its branches, diplomatic missions, domestic high-end customers, and prominent domestic and foreign businesses, to conduct exchanges and achieve common development. In the future, we will carefully gather the experiences, strengthen ties with branch shops, cultivate markets for the branches to achieve a better sales performance goal, and further increase the "Diplomatic Duty-free Shop” brand influence.
