On March 27, 2025, Beijing Language and Cultural Center for Diplomatic Missions hosted its first intangible cultural heritage concert of 2025, which attracted around 70 diplomats and international guests, including those from the European Union, Thailand, Chile, Bolivia, Netherlands, Russia, Germany, Italy, Poland and other countries.
The Grand Song of the Dong ethnic group, acclaimed as “a gem of humanity’s intangible cultural heritage”, boasts a history of over 2,500 years. It is a polyphonic chorus without conductors or instrumental accompaniment, renowned for imitating natural sounds like cicadas and streams. As Dong people’s saying goes: “Songs nourish the soul, just as rice nourishes the body.”
The performers from Liping Grand Song of Dong Ethnic Group (LPGS) have presented the audience with enchanting heavenly music. In the final interactive part of the concert, the foreign guests came to the stage to sing and dance with the performers, bringing the event to its climax.
Through this cross-cultural exchange, the foreign guests experienced the charm of traditional music and the wisdom of harmonious coexistence between humanity and nature, deepening their understanding and appreciation of Chinese culture.
