To increase staff's teamwork skills, enhance
staff communication, promote solidarity and improve competence of the managerial
staff, the Property Management Department of the Liangmaqiao DRC organized a DISC
training and outreach activity at the foot of the Lakeside Great Wall in Huairou
District, Beijing, on 22 April, 2016. The training was provided by Yuena
Xinsheng Management Consultation (Beijing).
At the beginning of the event, the trainer analyzed
the DISC Behavioral Pattern/Personality Assessment questionnaire completed by
the participants before the excursion.
The trainer from Yuena Xinsheng made a
presentation on how to interpret the DISC personality assessment results, and
explained that “D” stands for dominance, “I” for influence, “S” for steadiness
and “C” for compliance. DISC represents four types of personalities, based on
which the best mode of communication and management could be found to achieve
effective interaction and better unity in a team environment. With reference to
real-life events, the trainer elucidated different reactions of people with different
personalities and asked the audience to describe their own characteristic
traits to other participants. The trainer then carefully analyzed each
participant's personality traits, which ushered in rounds of heated debate.
The trainer continued to explain how to apply
the DISC assessment technique in business management so that the leadership could
arouse the enthusiasm of people with different types of personalities, boost
their confidence, make best use of their strengths and allow them to perform appropriate
work to maximize the team capacity. The presentation was very well received by
the audience.
The informative and humorous presentation enlivened
the classroom atmosphere, as the trainees recognized that, with better
cooperation, common efforts and solidarity, individual persons' strengths could
help enhance their team performance, improve management skills and make greater
achievements.
The outdoor outreach activity took place on
the afternoon and gave the trainees a chance to participate in team building
games under the guidance of another trainer.
Full of fun and excitement, the trainees
were divided into two groups who initially dealt with the game gingerly and gained
confidence and flexibility gradually and eventually accomplished all the tasks
successfully. They coped with the challenges, and effectively supported and
helped each other.
The excursion served the purpose of
improving communication, enhancing friendship, promoting solidarity and strengthening
the staff's sense of team work.
Following the outreach training session,
the participants went to climb the Great Wall and everyone reached the top of
the Lakeside Great Wall with other participants' support and assistance.
The magnificent view of the Great Wall
proved to be a reminder, to the participants, of the national spirit of unity,
self-reliance and hard working, arousing patriotism and a sense of duty in the
hearts of the DRC participants who vowed to dedicate their youthful passion to the
diplomatic undertaking.
Motivated by DRC’s vision of “building up an
international community of mutual respect and harmony”, the employees participating
in the excursion were so inspired that they spelt out the letters of “DRC” on
the ground at the foot of the Great Wall, as a symbol of their commitment.
