Area of Selection:
This position is open to external applicants residing in China and employees occupying an indeterminate or term position in China Missions who meet all of the essential qualifications and whose applications are received by the closing date.
Short-listed candidates should be able to participate in tests and/or interviews in Beijing at own expense. The successful candidate will be required to relocate to Beijing at own expense.
** This competition is Anticipatory Staffing to create an eligibility list for potential indeterminate, term and emergency vacancies that may arise within this domain. Currently we have a 5-month term vacancy starting in January 2018. **
Under the direction of the Head of Section, the Economic Officer is responsible for economic analysis, management of visiting delegations from Finance Canada and the Bank of Canada and more general analytic support of the Beijing Embassy and Consulates in China.
Education:
· Bachelor's degree in economics, commerce or finance, or degrees in political science, public administration or related discipline with at least four courses taken in the field of economics and finance. Appropriate and relevant work experience in the field of economics and finance may be taken into consideration as an alternative to the above education requirement.
Language:
· Proficiency in English (reading, writing, listening, speaking)
· Proficiency in Mandarin Chinese (reading, writing, listening, speaking)
Experience:
· Minimum of 2 years of experience within the last five years in gathering and analyzing economic information
· Experience in monitoring and analyzing Chinese economic issues
· Experience in providing advice, briefings, and written reports to management and/or clients on economic issues
Knowledge:
· Knowledge of China’s economic, social and political situation
· Knowledge of Canada’s diverse and comprehensive engagement with China
Abilities/skills:
· Ability to analyze and interpret various sources of information and to draft cogent economic reports in English
· Ability to perform accurate translation and interpretation from Chinese to English and vice versa

· Master degree from a recognized university
Language:

· Experience in coordinating logistics and developing programs for official events and/or visits

Conditions of Employment
· Ability to obtain and maintain a valid working authorization in China. Per Chinese regulations, the Embassy / Consulates can only facilitate working visas for Canadian citizens
· Ability to obtain and maintain a valid “Reliability Status” security clearance
Operational Requirement:
· Ability and willingness to work overtime on short notice as required
· Ability to travel domestically and internationally as required
