Beijing – FPDS Officer (Economic), LE-O1

 

Position Title: FPDS Officer (Economic)

Classification Level: LE-O1
Contract Type: Anticipatory - Indeterminate (Full-time)
Starting Annual Gross Salary: 221,052 RMB (before tax and employee social insurance contributions; employer social insurance contributions are paid on top of the gross salary; salary is non-negotiable)

Work location: Beijing

Closing Date:  March 17, 2024, at midnight Beijing time

 

Summary of Duties:  

 

Under the direction of the Section Head, the Economic Officer is primarily responsible for analyzing China's economy, conducting research, drafting reports and building networks. This person is also expected to support visiting delegations, organize occasional events and complete administrative tasks.

Essential Qualifications:

Candidates will initially be screened against the Essential Qualifications relating to education, language* and experience. Candidates must clearly demonstrate when applying to the position how they meet each of these essential qualifications.

*Language will be assessed further during the process. 

Education:

· Bachelor's degree in economics, commerce or finance, or degrees in related disciplines with courses taken in the field of economics and finance; OR an acceptable equivalent through the combination of education and work experience

Language:

· Advanced level of English (reading, writing, listening and speaking)

· Advanced level of Mandarin (reading, writing, listening and speaking)

Experience:

· Experience in analyzing economic issues and data;

· Experience in providing written reports in English.

Rated Requirements 

The Rated Requirements are part of the essential qualifications and are relating to knowledge, abilities and competencies. Methods of assessment for rated requirements may include, but are not limited to, a written examination, an oral interview online, in-person, role-play, practical tests, and/or presentations.

Knowledge:

• Knowledge of China’s economic, social and political situation;

• Knowledge of economic data.

Abilities/skills:

• Ability to analyze and interpret various sources of information and to draft cogent economic reports in English;

• Ability to coordinate logistics and developing programs for official meetings, events and/or visits;

• Ability to perform accurate translation and interpretation from Chinese to English and vice versa.

Competencies:

• Information Seeking – Does research

• Focus on Quality and Details – Monitors data or projects

• Initiative – Takes action under pressure

• Judgement – Applies sound judgement in difficult situations

Asset Qualifications: 

Preference may be given to candidates who meet the Asset Qualifications. Where applicable, candidates must clearly demonstrate how they meet any asset qualifications. 

• Master degree from a recognized university;

• Proficiency in French (reading, writing, listening, speaking);

• Knowledge of Canada’s economic and financial engagement with China

Operational Requirement: 

• Ability and willingness to work overtime as required, sometimes on short notice 

• Ability to travel as required

Conditions of Employment 

Valid work authorization: Holding a valid work authorization covering the entire employment period.  

Security screening: Maintaining a Reliability Status (security level) which includes a criminal and credit background check from the Government of Canada covering the entire employment period.
