Position Title: Beijing - Trade Officer, AAFC, LE-O1

Starting Annual Gross Salary: RMB 214,571 (before tax and employee social insurance contributions; employer social insurance contributions are paid on top of the gross salary; salary is non-negotiable)

Area of Selection:
This position is open to external applicants residing in China and employees occupying an indeterminate or term position in China Missions who meet all of the essential qualifications and whose applications are received by the closing date. Short-listed candidates should be able to participate in tests and/or interviews in Beijing at own expense. The successful candidate will be required to relocate to Beijing at own expense.
The Canadian Trade Commissioner Service is a world-wide network of professionals dedicated to advancing Canada's economic interests in global markets. Trade Commissioners provide their Canadian clients with practical advice on foreign markets and on-the-ground intelligence to make better, more timely, and cost-effective decisions in foreign markets. The Agriculture and Agri-food Trade Commissioners complement the larger network of Global Affairs Canada’s Trade Commissioners by providing direct support to agriculture and agri-food companies from Canada. They are client-centered, and engage in a range of activities including export market development, advocacy on market access, trade policy analysis, development of strategic alliances and networks, identification and communication of business leads, linking Canadian clients into supply chain networks, and promoting foreign direct investment into Canada. The successful candidate will be expected to provide advice, guidance, and support directed at increasing Canadian agriculture and agri-food trade and investment within North East China. The position is a working level position of the Trade Program. The incumbent participates in planning and delivery of the Trade program at the mission. This includes supporting the planning and implementation of the agriculture and agri-food Trade program and the associated development of operational goals, objectives and policies as well as solutions to program requirements. |
Education:
· Bachelor’s or equivalent degree from a recognized university
Language:
· Proficiency in English (reading, writing, listening, speaking)
· Proficiency in Chinese (reading, writing, listening, speaking)
Experience:
· A minimum of 5 years recent and direct experience in the following areas:
o Experience in international business development
o Experience managing client and stakeholder relationships and providing client service support to customers/clients
o Experience in providing strategic advice, briefings, and written reports to management and/or clients on international business issues
· Experience in working and liaising with government departments and officials
· Experience working with the meat (beef, pork, chicken) and/or seafood industry
Knowledge:
· Knowledge of international business in China and the role of foreign governments’ support of international businesses in China (exporting, importing, investment, technology transfer, etc.)
· Knowledge of agri-food industry and related sectors in China and Canada
Abilities/skills:
· Ability to communicate effectively (speaking and writing) in English and Mandarin;
· Ability to build and sustain a network of contacts, and clearly convey your position to key interlocutors;
· Ability to gather and analyze market intelligence to assess opportunities and challenges for clients or key stakeholders;
· Ability to provide expert strategic advice to both external clients and upper management;
· Ability to use technology tools, including social media, to help achieve objectives.

· Ability to obtain and maintain a valid working authorization in China. Per Chinese regulations, the Embassy / Consulates can only facilitate working visas for Canadian citizens
· Ability to obtain and maintain a valid “Reliability Status” security clearance
Operational Requirement:
· Ability and willingness to work overtime on short notice as required
· Able to travel domestically and internationally as required
