Summary: The U.S. Mission in Guangzhou is seeking one eligible and qualified applicant for the position of Guard.

The work schedule for this position is:  Full Time (40 hours per week)

 

Start date: Candidate must be able to begin working within a reasonable period of time of receipt of agency authorization and/or clearances/certifications or their candidacy may end.

Supervisory Position: No

Duties:  Provides security for U.S. Consulate personnel, family members, visitors, and guests by implementing access control measures, security screening, and identification badge program.  Detects, reports, and responds to threats and security incidents.  Performs emergency action duties in the events of a crisis and as outlined in the Guard Force Orders and Emergency Action Plan. While the work week is 40 hours, some posts will involve evening and midnight shifts.

Qualifications and Evaluations

Education: Completion of secondary school is required.

Requirements:

EXPERIENCE:  One year general work experience is required.

JOB KNOWLEDGE: 

Must be familiar with following strict procedures, conducting systematic inspections, wearing and maintaining a uniform, conducting inventories, recording events in a logbook, and prioritizing multiple taskings.

Evaluations:

LANGUAGE:  Level II (limited knowledge) speaking/reading/writing in English required. (This may be tested.) Level III (good working knowledge) speaking/reading/writing in Chinese official (Mandarin) and local language (Cantonese) required.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:  

Must be physically fit, to include using physical force to protect life and property, standing for long periods of time, lifting heavy objects and repetitive movements. Must be able to work independently and think quickly.  Must have strong organizational and observation skills.

Qualifications:  All applicants under consideration will be required to pass medical and security certifications.

The certification letter should be on letterhead of the appropriate military branch of the service and contain (1) the military service dates including the expected discharge or release date; and (2) the character of service.  Acceptable documentation must be submitted in order for the preference to be given.  

** This level of preference applies to all Foreign Service employees on LWOP and CS with re-employment rights back to their agency or bureau.
