The U.S. Mission in Beijing is seeking an eligible and qualified applicant for the position of Commercial Specialist. |

Duties: |
The Commercial Specialist has responsibility for some of the most complex and critical industrial sectors in China, representing high potential for U.S. exporters and requiring high-level advocacy and addressing complex market access issues. Serves as the senior professional analyst and advisor to the U.S. staff in planning, organizing and administering programs to facilitate the promotion of U.S. goods and services. Assists U.S. firms by developing and organizing marketing strategies, including conducting market research and reporting, planning trade promotion events, identifying and leveraging trade opportunities, and bringing U.S. and Chinese business representatives together in mutually beneficial discussions and ventures. Analyzes market trends and evaluates market research involving relevant industrial sectors. Maintains a wide range of business contacts in assigned sectors and with relevant segments of the Chinese Government. Advises U.S. and Chinese clients on each other's regulations as they affect trade and investment opportunities. Performs research and prepares complex factual and analytical reports on a variety of matters affecting U.S. exports and trade and disseminates them through USDOC systems and the Internet. The Commercial Specialist also investigates trade complaints made by U.S. firms in assigned sectors and makes recommendations to supervisor for resolution. Answers regular inquiries from Washington colleagues and provides support for official U.S. visitors. Functions as a mentor for Commercial Assistant colleagues, assisting them to reach their full potential through advice and counsel. In addition, may act as a mentor for new Commercial Specialist or those who could benefit from additional training and support. |
Qualifications and Evaluations |

Education: |
A Bachelor’s Degree in one of the following areas: Business, Management, Economics, Marketing, Finance, International Trade/Relations, Law, Information Management or Business Administration is required. |
Requirements: |
|
EXPERIENCE: |
Five (5) years progressively responsible experience in business, government or an industry association in the fields of sales, marketing, business development, trade promotion, international trade or similar field.
|
JOB KNOWLEDGE: |
Must have thorough knowledge of the domestic economy, commercial and industrial structures, business and industry customs and practices and trade and investment laws, regulations and policies. Thorough knowledge of U.S. business practices is required. |

LANGUAGE: |
English Level 4 and Mandarin Level 4 (Advanced Proficiency) (This may be tested.)

SKILLS AND ABILITIES: |
Must have the ability to develop and maintain a wide range of contacts from junior staff to senior level government officials and company CEOs within China, with particular focus on local firms within the assigned areas of responsibility; to counsel business clients and hold frequent discussions with industry contacts and CS staff at post and in the U.S to obtain and evaluate data; to research issues and prepare analytical reports; to render advise with detachment and objectivity, employing sound professional judgement; to express clearly and accurately in a variety of written formats with a high degree of complexity, including emails, memos, letters, presentation materials and market research reports; to work with private sector and government officials to resolve market access barriers and resolve trade compliance problems; the ability to work efficiently and meet deadlines with minimal supervision; to and to know when to seek higher level assistance. The ability to meet numerical export success goals and revenue generation targets is also required.
