Beijing – Senior Investment Officer, Alberta Office

Position Title: Senior Investment Officer, Alberta Office

Starting Annual Gross Salary: RMB 401,313 (before tax and employee social insurance contributions; employer social insurance contributions are paid on top of the gross salary; salary is non-negotiable)

Summary of Duties:
Under the general supervision of Invest Alberta Managing Director, Greater China, the incumbent is responsible for developing and delivering the Invest Alberta Investment attraction mandate for the Alberta Office co-located in the Embassy of Canada in Beijing. The main duties of the position include:
- Plan and shape business development strategies to attract investments from foreign companies and facilitate Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) into the province of Alberta;
- Gather and share market intelligence and develop client engagement strategies and tactics;
- Provide strategic advice and expertise on local business opportunities and local networks to help Alberta-based clients and exporters implement their strategies successfully;
- Research and analyse the local political and economic context of the market; develop and update market overview documentations on emerging trends and opportunities;
- Prepare and deliver general and sector-specific presentations at seminars, conferences and promotional events;
- Organize, lead and manage inbound & outbound missions & promotional events;
- Develop and maintain strong relationship with clients and stakeholders; works collaboratively with the Office and its headquarters, and other partners;
- Perform other duties as required.

Essential Qualifications:
Candidates will initially be screened against the Essential Qualifications relating to education, language* and experience. Candidates must clearly demonstrate when applying to the position how they meet each of these essential qualifications. *Language will be assessed further during the process.
Education:
· Bachelor’s degree from a university, OR an acceptable equivalent through the combination of education, training and work experience related to the duties and competences required by the position
Language:
· Advanced level of English (reading, writing, listening and speaking)
· Advanced level of Mandarin (reading, writing, listening and speaking)
Experience:
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience in each of the following:
o Experience in international business development, trade promotion, and/or investment attraction;
o Experience managing client and stakeholder relationships and in providing business service support;
o Experience in project management;
o Experience in providing strategic advice, briefings, and written reports to management and/or clients on international business issues
• Experience in working and/or liaising with government department, agencies and local companies
Rated Requirements
The Rated Requirements are part of the essential qualifications and are relating to knowledge, abilities and competencies. Methods of assessment for rated requirements may include, but are not limited to, a written examination, an oral interview online, in-person, role-play, practical tests, and/or presentations.

• Knowledge of the factors that influence investment, expansion and relocation and aftercare decisions for investors
• Knowledge of the role of governments in facilitating international trade and investment
• Knowledge of key economic sectors, businesses, opportunities, central/provincial/municipal government, and ministries as well as the trade and regulatory environment in China

Asset Qualifications:
Preference may be given to candidates who meet the Asset Qualifications. Where applicable, candidates must clearly demonstrate how they meet any asset qualifications.
• Experience working in the field of foreign direct investment (FDI)
• Experience working in a diplomatic mission or intergovernmental organization
• Knowledge of Alberta’s key economic sectors, businesses, geographic regions, economic strengths, and interests in China
• Experience in managing inbound and outbound missions and delegation
Operational Requirement:
• Ability and willingness to work overtime as required, sometimes on short notice
• Ability to travel as required
Conditions of Employment
Valid work authorization: Ability to obtain and hold a valid work authorization covering the entire employment period. The mission can only facilitate working visas for Canadian citizens
Security screening: Obtain and maintain a Reliability Status (security level) which includes a criminal and credit background check from the Government of Canada covering the entire employment period
