Summary:

The U.S. Mission in Beijing is seeking eligible and qualified applicants for the position of Carpenter.

Work Schedule:                              Full Time (40 hours per week)

Start Date:                                      Candidate must be able to begin working within a reasonable period of time of receipt of agency authorization and/or clearances/certifications or their candidacy may end.

Duties:

Functions as a carpenter at the journeyman level.  Assists other trades with secondary support for multi-person requirements and maintains work areas. May direct the work of trades helper and casual laborers. This work involves light lifting (less than 15 kg) and requires the use of safe working practices.  May drive USG owned vehicles.

Qualifications and Evaluations

Education:

Secondary schooling is required. Completion of vocational training or apprenticeship recognized as producing a journeyman carpenter skills is required.

Requirements:

EXPERIENCE:

Two years of journeyman experience in the carpentry field is required.

JOB KNOWLEDGE:

Must have full journeyman knowledge of established practices and procedures of the carpentry trade; must have a general understanding of other trades.

Evaluations:

LANGUAGE:

English Level 2 (Elementary Proficiency/Limited) and Mandarin Level 3(Good Working Knowledge) (This may be tested.)

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Must be able to use all tools (Hand & Electric tools) of the trade. Lifting of heavy equipment is necessary. Must be able to climb ladders and perform duties under a variety of conditions both inside and out, even during in climate weather. Must hold local C1 level driver’s license for a minimum of five years.

Qualifications:

All applicants under consideration will be required to pass medical and security certifications.

The certification letter should be on letterhead of the appropriate military branch of the service and contain (1) the military service dates including the expected discharge or release date; and (2) the character of service.  Acceptable documentation must be submitted in order for the preference to be given.
