Section 2 – Purpose of Job
The AIIB-EBRD Business Development Associate Director is a senior EBRD staff seconded to the AIIB with a mandate to develop the EBRD’s business development, policy and institutional engagement with Chinese entities. The Business Development Associate Director has established an EBRD unit at the AIIB with a primary focus on business development.
The Business Development (BD) department in London is an essential part of the business cycle to continue to develop a pipeline of new Foreign Direct Investments (‘FDI’) businesses in EBRD’s 38 economies of operation. BD fosters contacts with international investors and also provides support to the Bank’s overall external visibility in the market, including organising business events in London and its operating countries. The set of business development deliverables requires a strategic approach in identifying and developing potential FDI businesses.
EBRD Management has formed a group of senior staff, including the AIIB-EBRD Business Development Associate Director, to coordinate the Bank’s engagements with China.
The Analyst plays an important role in supporting and enabling EBRD Senior Management to foster relationships between the EBRD and target clients and prospects following through on potential new business opportunities. They undertake regular market, sector and company research, including in-depth background information on target companies and provide support of a general nature in pursuit of new business in the sectors and regions in which the Bank is active.
Section 3 – Accountabilities & Responsibilities
· To support the AIIB-EBRD Business Development Associate Director in the effective promotion of the Bank's capabilities to its clients and prospect through providing strong analytical support, identifying target names and through facilitating business development activities, contact companies and organise meetings, deal origination and assisting in raising awareness of the Bank;
· To work closely together with the BD team on all aspects of coordination of marketing business development visits of EBRD senior management (includes President, First Vice President, Vice Presidents and Managing Directors);
· To work in tandem with other members of the China BD team in Beijing and BD team in London;
· To research, analyse and prepare marketing materials for meetings (including comprehensive briefing packs, PowerPoint presentations, etc.);
· To provide research and in-depth background information on companies and/or sectors and to prepare supporting marketing materials such as presentations and pitch books, etc.
· To take part (in close coordination with Banking and Communications) in organising and coordinating EBRD and externally co-sponsored seminars/events aimed to promote EBRD’s countries of operations coupled with marketing Bank as a partner for the investment projects:
· To help organise regional business development events in EBRD’s Countries of Operations;
· To attend business development meetings and be responsible for timely drafting of factual, to the point, Back To Office Reports including disseminating within the Bank;
· To provide support to the AIIB-EBRD Business Development Associate Director for ad hoc requests of a wide nature, including responding to information requests in a timely manner.
Section 4 – Knowledge, Skills, Experience & Qualifications
· Bachelor’s or equivalent degree with specialization in finance. Master’s degree desirable;
· Proven corporate, business development (sales) or research background or experience gained with a reputable financial institution;
· Broad knowledge and understanding of banking and the banking project cycle and a good knowledge and understanding of key marketing principles;
· Broad understanding of energy, natural resources, agribusiness, manufacturing and services sectors is useful;
· IT: proficiency in MS Office, with strong Excel and PowerPoint skills;
· Demonstrated ability to develop good interpersonal and client relations, service oriented and commercial ‘feel’ and drive, all supported by excellent communication skills;
· Demonstrated ability to work successfully in multicultural teams and across geographical boundaries;
· Languages: Fluency in Mandarin and in English required – both written and spoken.
· Previous experience with intelligence platforms such as Orbis, FDI markets, Factiva and Mergermarket would be useful;
· A good understanding of the Chinese business environment is essential.
