POSITION:  Public Affairs Adviser Social Media

 

Starting Salary: 230,000 RMB, negotiable depending on experience.

 

Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role

 

The Public Affairs Adviser works within the Embassy’s Public Affairs Team to provide specialist communications expertise to support the work of the Embassy in Beijing and the broader network of New Zealand Consulates-General in China.

 

The Public Affairs Adviser will be responsible for managing the New Zealand Embassy’s social media channels, developing social media content and delivering digital communications activities on our social media channels. The Adviser also has responsibility, in coordination with policy teams, for monitoring and analysing state and social media in China.

 

Mā‎ wai te mahi nei? – Who are we looking for?

 

In this role you will:  

• Lead on social media content creation and implementation of digital campaigns that support New Zealand’s foreign policy and trade objectives, promote positive perceptions of New Zealand in China, engage a greater audience, and expand Embassy followers.

• Lead on the planning, creating, filming, editing and posting of relevant and varied content for the Embassy’s social media engagement and platforms. Provide support to Consulates General, as required.

• Develop and maintain the social media forward planner.

• Maintain a strong understanding of China’s social media platforms, landscape and key influencers and keep abreast of new technologies and developments in the digital landscape to ensure Embassy communications exploit emerging trends and remain relevant to the target audience.

• Ensure all social media and other public-facing materials have a cohesive style and meet a high standard of quality and relevance to the target audience.

• Monitor and evaluate results of social media campaigns.

• Monitor, research and analyse information on Chinese state and social media to provide accurate and specialised advice and reporting on key developments, particularly where these affect New Zealand.

• Prepare daily media and regular social media reports as required.

 

You will need:

• A relevant tertiary qualification, preferably in journalism, marketing, graphic design or communications.

• Relevant experience in digital content creation, social media management and digital campaign implementation.

• Proficiency in filming and editing both images and video, including using professional cameras, lighting and audio equipment.

• Deep knowledge of social media environment and trends and competence in using both Chinese and western social media platforms.

• Professional fluency in both Chinese and English, both written and verbal.

• Ability to work as part of a small team, with flexibility, initiative and minimal supervision, applying sound judgement and innovation to public diplomacy and communications tasks as needed.

• Strong media research and analytical skills, familiarity with analytical products, capable of producing regular research and reports.
