INVITES APPLICANTS FOR THE POSITION OF
DRIVER OF THE AMBASSADOR
The Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Beijing has a vacancy for a driver to transport
specifically the Ambassador. Other tasks: transport of persons, goods and official documents and
to take care of day-to-day vehicle maintenance. Experienced professional drivers with good
comprehension of English are invited to apply for this position.
Primary task:
• Primary driving the Ambassador.
• Carrying out daily maintenance on the Ambassador’s vehicle and taking care of
simple repairs, ensuring the vehicle is always in excellent condition.
Secondary tasks:
• Embassy staff and delegation members, mostly in Beijing and vicinity.
Occasionally longer distances outside of Beijing.
•
Delivering documents to Chinese authorities such as Ministry of Foreign Affairs,
Customs, Traffic Administration etc.
•
Picking up/seeing off and accompanying Embassy staff, delegations
and missions at the airport.
•
Arranging for the inspection by Chinese authorities of the vehicles of the Embassy and
expat staff.
•
Purchasing and picking up goods/supplies for the Chancery and the Ambassador’s
Residence for representational purposes.
•
Advising on transport arrangements and alternative routes.
Additional tasks:
•
Cleaning and maintenance of the Embassy bicycles according to a monthly schedule.
•
Helping out with internally and sometimes externally moving furniture and
other objects when necessary.
•
Assisting in setting up receptions and meetings.
Job requirements:
•
Valid driving licence, clean traffic violation record, and experience as professional driver.
•
Excellent driving skills -both smooth and assertive-, respecting traffic regulations.
•
Able to drive in a (small) convoy of vehicles.
•
Improvisations skills.
•
Representative appearance.
•
Good topographical knowledge of Beijing and preferably also of Tianjin and Hebei province.
•
Skilled in reading (electronic) maps.
•
Practical knowledge of car mechanics.
•
Native speaker of Mandarin Chinese.
•
Good comprehension of English (understands, speaks and reads more than just basic English).
•
First-aid knowledge is preferred.
•
Willing to work beyond job description if and when needed.
•
Willing to work overtime in evenings, weekends and public holidays.
•
Willing to work and cooperate in a team.
Level of education: pre-vocational level.
Level of experience: a minimum of 5 years experience as a professional driver, preferably at a
diplomatic representation, an international organisation or a multinational company.
Working environment:
The network of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in the People’s Republic of China comprises the
Embassy in Beijing and Consulates-General in Chongqing, Guangzhou, Hong Kong and Shanghai.
The Embassy staff consists in total of about 95 people; Netherlands’ based staff, locally employed
Dutch staff and Chinese staff.
The candidate will work in a support team comprising, amongst others, four drivers and directly
managed by the Personal assistant of the Ambassador.
Conditions of employment:
•
The candidate must exclusively have the Chinese nationality.
•
The successful candidate will be offered a fixed term contract for 38 hours a week for the
duration of one year with the possibility to extend.
•
The employee will officially (have to) be contracted by the Beijing Diplomatic Service Bureau
(DSB). The official appointment will be subject to DSB’s final agreement.
•
A salary will be offered for job level 4 within the range of RMB 9,393.00 to 14,089.00 gross per
month (depending on experience and years of employment) and overtime where applicable,
according to pay scales decreed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands.
•
The driver will be provided with an Embassy uniform that is to be worn during working hours.
