Summary:                                              The U.S. Consulate General in Shenyang is seeking one eligible and qualified applicant for the position of Protocol Assistant / Events Assistant.

Work Schedule:                                    Full Time (40 hours per week)                                   

Start Date:                                             Candidate must be able to begin working within a reasonable period of time of receipt of agency authorization and/or clearances/certifications or their candidacy may end.

Supervisory Position:                             No

Duties:                                                    This position will be responsible for managerial, communications, and operational support for all Executive Office events at the Consulate as well as offsite events; liaise with CGR staff, GSO, Facilities, section heads or their designees, and external contractors in conjunction with events; coordinate the organization and support for all CGR events to include ordering, purchasing, and otherwise obtaining all required supplies and service. Provides operational direction to the Consul General’s executive chef and housekeepers and provides oversight of their assigned tasks and leave plans at the direction of the Consul General. This position also assists the Protocol Assistant with routine protocol activities.

Qualifications and Evaluations

Education:                                             Completion of two years college or university studies is required.

Requirements:

EXPERIENCE:                                     Minimum two (2) years working experience in event promotion, conference coordination and planning, hospitality management, or financial management, understood in a broad sense to include academic, business, government, or foundation-related experience is required.

JOB KNOWLEDGE:                           Broad knowledge of event planning and vendor/contractor operations in China, American cuisines and culture, the political, social, cultural, commercial issues of the three provinces of Northeast China as well as the basic biographic facts of leaders at provincial, municipal and country levels in the same region.                                                                

Evaluations:

LANGUAGE:                                        Level 4/4 (Fluent) speaking/reading/writing in English is required. (This will be tested.)

Level 4/4 (Fluent) speaking/reading/writing in Chinese is required.          

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:                   Proficiency in using computers and MS office.

Strong organization and team management skills as well as the ability to function in a highly visible work environment that involves constantly changing priorities, deadlines, schedule changes, and itineraries.  

Qualifications:                                        All applicants under consideration will be required to pass medical and security certifications.

The certification letter should be on letterhead of the appropriate military branch of the service and contain (1) the military service dates including the expected discharge or release date; and (2) the character of service.  Acceptable documentation must be submitted in order for the preference to be given. 

** This level of preference applies to all Foreign Service employees on LWOP and CS with re-employment rights back to their agency or bureau.
