Our mission is to promote and protect abroad the values, interests and economic well-being of Ireland and its people. We do this under the political direction of our Ministers, through our staff at home and through our Embassy network abroad.

 

The Embassy of Ireland in Beijing is seeking to recruit a qualified and highly motivated candidate for the position of Research and Liaison Officer.

Role:

The appointee will report to the Ambassador through the Economic Counsellor. S/He will play a key role in achieving the objectives of the Embassy of Ireland in Beijing, which include, but are not limited to:

• Monitoring and analysis of developments in China's economic policy including in the investment, banking, and financial services sectors as well as broader macro-economic trends in China,

• Assisting in the production of reporting and research on the aforementioned areas,

• Cultivating existing links and forging new links with contacts in the government, business, investment, finance, and financial services fields both in China and in Ireland,

• Attending and reporting on events relevant to the aforementioned areas,

• Working as part of the Team Ireland structure in China to promote Ireland’s economic prosperity and strengthen Ireland-China relations.

Essential requirements candidates must be able to demonstrate:

• A third level qualification in a relevant discipline (Economics, International Trade, etc.)

• 3-5 years experience in dealing with Chinese State/governmental ministries, agencies and other official entities in the economic sphere

• Fluency in Mandarin and excellent command of English, both written and spoken

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite of programs

• Good analytical and report writing skills

• The successful candidate must have a legal entitlement to live and work in China prior to recruitment.

Desirable Requirements:

• Strong demonstrable knowledge of Ireland and its role in China and Ireland-China economic relations,

• Experience of working in an economic/economic research in a diplomatic mission,

• Experience of interaction with Chinese and Irish government departments, State agencies and other authorities,

• Ability to provide advice with sensitivity to policy considerations and the wider context within which the Embassy of Ireland and Irish State Agencies operate.

Terms and conditions of employment:

The successful candidate will be a full time employee on a fixed-term contract of 24 months based at the Chancery building; 3 Ritan Dong Lu, Beijing. The annual remuneration is 335,993 Chinese RMB and includes a fixed payscale. Increments are awarded based upon the successful completion of an annual performance review. A six-month probation period applies.
