The role of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) is to advance the interests of Australia and Australians internationally. This involves strengthening Australia’s security, enhancing Australia’s prosperity, delivering an effective and high quality overseas aid program and helping Australian travellers and Australians overseas.
The department provides foreign, trade and development policy advice to the Australian Government. DFAT also works with other Australian government agencies to drive coordination of Australia’s pursuit of global, regional and bilateral interests.
About the position
The HR Manager is responsible for the development and implementation of a Human Resource Management Strategy and overseeing the work of the Human Resources Section and assisting in the implementation of Human Resource Management principles and processes. Role is responsible for supervision of a small team.
The key responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:
· Assist with Human Resource and LE workforce planning, including recruitment
· Assist post management in the development and implementation of LES HR policies and guidelines
· Oversee a range of personnel functions for expatriate and DSB staff, including payment and accrual of entitlements and leave arrangements
· Oversee the protocol work of the Embassy for all agencies and liaise at senior levels with the relevant contacts in the MFA
· Supervise and manage the work of small team.
Qualifications/Experience
· A proven ability to supervise, and develop staff, to set priorities and organise workloads to achieve objectives effectively, in a timely manner
· Ability to work with limited supervision, to analyse and make suggestions regarding personnel issues
· A proven record of experience with manual and computerised systems, in particular Microsoft Word, Excel, IPL, SAP, ESS, their applications and reporting
· An awareness of the Australian Government acts, regulations and guidelines, relevant to the performance of the duties outlined in the duty statement
· Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing in English and Chinese, with a professional approach to personnel matters
