Organizational Context

The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) is the world’s largest volunteer-based humanitarian network. Together with our 190 National Societies worldwide, we reach 97 million people annual through long-term service and development programmes as well as 85 million people through disaster response and recovery programmes.

 

The four countries supported by the country cluster support team in Beijing – China, Japan, Mongolia and Republic of Korea, cover 28 per cent of the Asian continent and comprising 1.5 billion people.  Disasters, poverty, unprecedented aging of the population, urbanization and migration contribute to increased vulnerability in this region.  The population are also exposed to increased health risks due to epidemics, communicable and non-communicable diseases. 

 

The office supports Red Cross Societies in East Asia in becoming stronger at home and abroad and in both disaster response operations and sustainable development initiatives. We act as a resource centre and conduit for exploration and adaptation of global initiatives to meet the sub-region’s needs and capacities.

 

Job Purpose

The intern is expected to be responsible for assisting in the youth and volunteer work especially the YABC* program which is an Educational program by the Red Cross Society of China with the support by the IFRC Country Cluster Support Team in Beijing. A work plan with achievements for the duration of the internship and learning opportunities will be agreed upon.

 

* YABC “Youth as Agent of Behavioral Change “is the IFRC’s flagship initiative on the promotion of a culture of non-violence and peace, YABC aims to trigger positive changes of mindsets, attitudes and behavior, empower individuals to take up an ethical leadership role in their community through various experiential activities.

 

Roles and Responsibilities

The position is a part-time intern based in IFRC CCST – Beijing.  The position reports to the senior NSD Officer and head of CCST, demonstrating considerable creativity in assisting implementing the YABC program in China and other capacity building of National societies in youth that CCST supports. The person shall be able to work in the IFRC office at least 2 days per week. And the working period is expected to be end on May 30 2019.

 

Specific Tasks  

• Conduct a baseline/impact survey together with the Red Cross Society of China for the YABC Program;
• Coordinate with RCSC HQ and branches, IFRC CCST to support the set-up of YABC National working group, and support the Action plan of the RCSC YABC working group as needed;
• Participate in Developing the YABC promotion plan in China;
• Support the YABC training/exchange hosted by RCSC for the region or globally；
• Collect China’YABC good practice and share/promote in East Asia;
• Coordinate with volunteers, set up the rules and system for YABC project monitoring and promotion;
• Support coordinate with EAYNs on youth-related issues especially on education and value dissemination;
• Explore partnership with potential partners.
