Starting Annual Gross Salary RMB 111,660 (before tax and employee social insurance contributions; 13th month bonus and employer social insurance contributions are paid on top of the gross salary; salary is non-negotiable)

Area of Selection:

This position is open to external applicants residing in China and employees occupying an indeterminate or term position in China Missions who meet all of the essential qualifications and whose applications are received by the closing date.

Short-listed candidates should be able to participate in tests and/or interviews in Beijing at own expense. The successful candidate will be required to relocate to Beijing at own expense.

Summary of duties:

The Canadian Trade Commissioner Service is a world-wide network of professionals dedicated to advancing Canada's global commerce. These professionals work with government and business to identify opportunities as well as obstacles to trade so that they can act on them to allow trade to happen.

The incumbent is responsible for responding to a wide variety of requests from Canadian companies seeking to do business in China. This role requires strong knowledge of China’s business environment and provides an excellent opportunity to learn more about the dynamics of international trade and help resolve challenging business issues.

The incumbent is also the sector officer responsible for winter sports and the Olympics. The 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics and the Chinese government’s focus on developing the winter sports industry present unique opportunities for Canadian firms. Successful pursuit of these opportunities will require the incumbent to build a strong network both in China and in Canada, conduct economic and industrial analysis, and liaise regularly with Chinese government agencies.

 

As a member of the Trade Commissioner Service, you will contribute to advancing Canada’s global commerce by, among others, developing and sharing knowledge of the marketplace; providing service, advice and information to clients; building relationships with clients and local contacts; doing troubleshooting; planning and executing events as well as planning and managing budgets.

Mandatory requirements:

Education:

·         Minimum Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university, OR an acceptable equivalent through the combination of education and work experience

Language:

·         Proficiency in English (reading, writing, listening, speaking)

·         Proficiency in Mandarin Chinese (reading, writing, listening, speaking)

Experience:

·         Relevant experience in international commerce within the last 3 years

·         Experience in working and liaising with government departments and officials

·         Experience providing client service to internal and external clients (in companies or other government departments) in person and in writing

·         Experience using digital social media to increase a brand’s web presence

Knowledge:

·         Knowledge of international business (exporting, importing, investment, technology transfer, etc.)

·         Knowledge of MS Office Tools, including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint

Abilities/skills:

·         Ability to write effective business correspondence in English and Chinese

·         Ability to research, interpret sources of information and synthesize data to respond to requests for information from clients

·         Ability to perform translation and interpretation from English to Chinese and vice versa

Asset Criteria:

Preferred standing may be given to those candidates who also meet the following:

Language:

·         Proficiency in French (reading, writing, listening, speaking)

Experience:

·         Experience in working with visiting business and/or government delegation

·         Experience in graphic design

·         Experience researching and drafting written material on topics pertaining to international business

·         Experience working in the sports industry (Olympics, winter sports, government sports agencies, etc.)

Knowledge:

·         Knowledge of relevant topics such as Canadian and Chinese trade and investment business environment and practices; major areas and/or sectors of international trade; and/or Chinese government and industry structures, major economic and political issues

·         Knowledge of business-to-business online content marketing strategies, including multimedia (video, blogs, social media) and web analytics

Abilities/skills:

·         Ability to create high-impact visual material in the form of infographics, one-pagers, and presentations 

Organizational Needs:

Conditions of Employment

·         Ability to obtain and maintain a valid working authorization in China. Per Chinese regulations, the Embassy / Consulates can only facilitate working visas for Canadian citizens

·         Ability to obtain and maintain a valid “Reliability Status” security clearance

Operational Requirement:

·         Ability and willingness to work overtime on short notice as required

·         Able to travel domestically and internationally as required
