Seven members of the BDS volunteers’ team went to the Sanjiadian Primary School in Mentougou District to provide a course on world cultures and social etiquettes for some fifty 5thgraders on the afternoon of 5 December.

As agreed with the school authorities, the BDS volunteers were to offer a course on International Understanding this year to broaden the vision of the children so that they could learn more about other countries through a window open to the world. Presented by Li Mengying and Ren Kexin from the Language and Culture Center, the interactive course went underway in a lighthearted and invigorating way to coach the youngsters on social etiquettes, such as table manner, behavioral code and daily life rituals, of practical use. Slides were shown to inform the children how to recognize various countries’ emblems and teach them simple terms of greetings in different languages. The children were avid learners with strong curiosity and aspiration to know more about the world. The course came to a successful conclusion with the teachers and pupils looking forward to having more.

The BDS volunteers’ meticulous arrangements were generously rewarded by the high appreciation of the school authorities and the volunteers felt rewarded with the smile and laughter of the children who looked forward to having more such opportunities of knowledge sharing.
